Thursday, SF Cinematheque presents three films in All Over Coffee, Leila Weefur's Westerns series continues with Buck and the Preacher at BAMPFA, Eraserhead, The Colors Within (repeats through the weekend), and Werner Herzog's latest doc, Theater Of Thought, are at the Roxie, Bram Stoker's Dracula is at the Balboa, the 4 Star's Paul Schrader series continues with Hardcore, and the Stanford's Frank Capra calendar continues with Flight and Dirigible (repeating Friday, on 35mm).
Friday, this year's Noir City festival starts at the Grand Lake—with double features every night and two on Saturday all through next week, including lots of rare 35mm screenings this year—beginning with The Narrow Margin and Hell's Half Acre (both on 35mm), BAMPFA's G. W. Pabst series continues with Diary of a Lost Girl (with live piano accompaniment), Every Little Thing opens at the Roxie, and, having been once again postponed due to bats, the Smith Rafael's For Your Consideration series of the international Oscar shortlist will hopefully actually kick off this time, The Florida Project is at the Balboa, a Schrader double of First Reformed and The Card Counter at the 4 Star, and Dinner in America is at the Lark.
Saturday, The Searchers is at BAMPFA, the expanded The Brian Jonsetown Massacre doc DIG! XX (repeats Sunday) is at the Roxie, Lino Brocka's Bona at the Drafthouse, the Smith Rafael hosts director Oleg Harencar and film subject Ron Holland for a screening of yacht doc The Voyage of Discovery, Fallen Angels is at the Balboa, the 4 Star's Popcorn Palace feature this week is The Boy and the Heron, the Niles Essanay Silent Film Museum has their monthly comedy shorts night, featuring Chaplin, Keaton, Lloyd, and Laurel & Hardy, the Stanford's weekend Capra double feature is It Happened One Night and You Can't Take It With You, and today's Noir City program at the Grand Lake is a double double, of Kiss of Death and The Sleeping City (on 35mm) followed by Out of the Past (on 35mm) and Stanley Kubrick's The Killing.
