Alan Licht's "Common Tones"

Series Site

"To celebrate the publication of composer, musician, and writer Alan Licht’s new book 'Common Tones' – which features interviews with a wide range of cultural figures from the realms of music, cinema, literature, and art – we’ve invited Licht to guest-curate a series. The program gathers a selection of films either directed by or featuring ten of the artists highlighted in the book – Rudy Wurlitzer, Kelly Reichardt, Phill Niblock, Karl Precoda, Vito Acconci, Richard Foreman, Tony Oursler, Glenn Branca, Tony Conrad, and Alan Vega – as well as works discussed by Licht and his interlocutors in the interviews. Reflecting the diversity of the book’s voices, and Licht’s own engagement with a variety of music worlds, the series encompasses New Hollywood classics like TWO LANE BLACKTOP and KING OF MARVIN GARDENS, more recent indie feature films like Kelly Reichardt’s OLD JOY, and an array of experimental films and videos." -Anthology Film Archives
