ALSO STARRING… DIAHANN CARROLL

Series Site

An Emmy- and Tony-winner at a time when African American actors were too rarely recognized on screen or stage and the first Black performer to have her own sitcom, Diahann Carroll knew she was too good to be denied her stardom, and spent a lifetime breaking down any barrier in her way. Metrograph’s tribute to the Bronx-born, Harlem-raised actress/chanteuse showcases the late Carroll at her big-screen best, with a program that encompasses her film debut supporting Dorothy Dandridge in Otto Preminger’s Carmen Jones, her star roles opposite Sidney Poitier in Paris Blues and James Earl Jones in Claudine, and her grand dame turn as a hoodoo fortune teller in Kasi Lemmons’s Eve’s Bayou.
