Hello, and welcome to Blaxploitation 101: your crash course on one of the film genres that defined the 1970s. Seen by some as perpetuating negative Black stereotypes, while beloved by many others for their empowering depictions of Black people, one cannot deny the power of these films, no matter where you stand.
We start off with what many consider to be one of the first Blaxploitation films, SWEET SWEETBACK… and end with a cult classic from the 80s, THE LAST DRAGON, with some of Blaxploitation’s greatest hits sandwiched in between.
