Carl Franklin’s three noir-tinged thrillers stand out not just for their mostly black casts, but their sharp production values and creation of tension that later made him a natural fit for directing several Mindhunter episodes.
Like many other lauded directors, Franklin started out producing and directing low budget features for Roger Corman. Before that as a student at AFI, he had directed a short film, PUNK, which caught the eye of producers he would then work with on ONE FALSE MOVE. Then came his best known, DEVIL IN A BLUE DRESS, starring Denzel Washington, who he would later work with on OUT OF TIME.
We present here these three features, all on 35mm, plus a rare screening of that first short PUNK (preceding both shows of ONE FALSE MOVE.
