Cicely Tyson

Series Site

We pay tribute to iconic, groundbreaking actress Cicely Tyson, who passed away in 2021 and left behind a formidable legacy. The child of immigrants from the Caribbean island of Nevis, Tyson was born in New York and had a 60-year career that included several Emmys, a Tony Award, an honorary Oscar, and a Presidential Medal of Freedom. This series gathers career-spanning work, from her big-screen debut in the rarely screened Carib Gold to her scene-stealing supporting roles later in life. It also celebrates her triumphs of the 1970s, including her Emmy-winning The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman (originally made for television and presented here for a rare theatrical run) and Sounder, for which she received an Oscar nomination for Best Actress.
