CLOSE-UP: FILMS ON FILM

Series Site

With its clashing outsized egos, high-pressure schedules, daily existential crises, and roundelays of “backstage” romances and rivalries, a movie set has everything that’s required to make riveting cinema—something that more than a few auteurs have taken note of. With Close-Up: Film on Film, we look at movies that step behind the scenes to capture the anguish that comes in midwifing a motion picture into the world… as well as the occasional ecstasies found in collective creative work. Making movies may not be easy, but we bet you’ll find this collection—including works by Fellini, Tsai Ming-liang, Robert Altman, and many more—plenty easy to enjoy.
