"Get Down, Get Down: A Celebration of Dance Films offers just what it says on the label. From January 5th to the 28th, the 4-Star will be playing a curated selection of movies which encapsulate the artistry and wonder of dance throughout film history. The best dance films are filled with vivid colors, immaculate costuming/production, kinetic editing, awe-inspiring camerawork, and some of the catchiest songs you’ve ever heard. It’s a genre particularly capable of bringing to life everything that is so captivating and transportive about the movies, because it’s a genre committed to finding the best ways of translating the wonder of these visceral experiences to the big screen. The dance film is cinema at its most wholly and uncompromisingly intoxicating.
Throughout the month, Tunnel Records will be providing live hour long DJ sets to jam out to in the theater preceding two of the films in the program (Lovers Rock and Breakin' 2: Electric Boogaloo)."
