"This series is presented in honor of the Museum’s late film archivist Eileen Bowser, and her profound contributions to MoMA’s film collection. During her nearly 55 years (1954–1998) as part of the Department of Film, under chief curators Richard Griffith, Donald Richie, Willard Van Dyke, Ted Perry, and Mary Lea Bandy, Bowser significantly expanded the Museum’s film collection and shaped the institution’s role in the developing film-preservation movement of the 1970s and ’80s. A respected scholar of silent film and an active member of the International Federation of Film Archives, Bowser was a pioneer in the repatriation of world cinema.
