Series Site

Born on March 20th, 1957, and raised in Cobble Hill, Brooklyn, Shelton Jackson Lee (a.k.a. Spike) quickly became one of the most prolific Black directors in history after his 1986 feature debut, SHE’S GOTTA HAVE IT. Since then, few filmmakers have been able to capture and celebrate the city of New York and its inhabitants from so many unique, critical and compelling angles.

Along with his consistent crew (Ruth E. Carter, Ernest Dickerson, Malik Hassan Sayeed, Terence Blanchard, Robi Reed, Wynn Thomas), and his rotating repertory of Players (including Denzel Washington, Samuel L. Jackson, John Turturro, Giancarlo Esposito, Joie Lee, Ruby Dee, Ossie Davis and Delroy Lindo), join us on our journey as we travel through the singular vision of Spike Lee’s New York.
