Ever since opening in 1948, the Paris Theater has been one of New York City’s premier arthouse theaters. A large, elegant theater in a prime location, it has always been an ideal venue to launch prestigious new films from around the world. Many of the great films to open at the Paris over the years have dealt with themes of love, romance, sex, and marriage. That is a common thread uniting this eclectic list of great movies that premiered at the Paris. Netflix is glad to have saved the Paris from its announced closing in 2019, allowing New York’s love affair with the theater to continue.
