Realismo Mágico at Nitehawk Cinema

Series Site

A series of films that blur the line between fantasy and reality in honor of Hispanic Heritage month.

Magical Realism is “what happens when a highly detailed, realistic setting is invaded by something too strange to believe” – Matthew Strecher. Though the term was coined in Germany to describe a style of painting, it thrived in 20th Century Latin America due to the blending of indigenous mythology and contemporary political influences.

Allende, García Márquez and Borges are some literary titans that have helped define Magical Realism. In this series, we honor the cinematic contributions to the genre while highlighting Hispanic directors in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month.
