Visions of Childhood

Richard Linklater’s charming and perceptive new film, Apollo 10-½: A Space Age Childhood joins a roster of films about childhood by great directors. Linklater’s own film Boyhood, a unique cinematic experiment filmed over twelve years that watches its protagonist literally grow up before our eyes, must be on any list of the best movies on the theme. For this series, Linklater selected five other movies about childhood by some of cinema’s greatest artists: François Truffaut (Small Change), Nagisa Oshima (Boy), Andrei Tarkovsky (My Name is Ivan), Federico Fellini (Amarcord) and Fanny And Alexander (Ingmar Bergman).
